Pharmacy Leadership Workshop

University of Nairobi, Kansas to Kenya, University of Kansas and Lawrence Memorial Hospital

Date:June 22nd and 23rd 2016

Overview:University of Nairobi, Kansas to Kenya, University of Kansas and Lawrence Memorial Hospital working together with the School of Pharmacy, University of Nairobi will be offering a two day pharmacy leadership workshop on with a focus on leading and managing teams. It emphasizes the need for effective team leadership as a core competency in leadership development.

Target Audience: The intended beneficiaries of this program are Faculty Members, School of Pharmacy, Post graduate students and Hospital Pharmacists in all sectors. For logistical purposes, the training will be restricted to 30 participants. These will be selected based on stringent criteria. The fee for the course is Ksh 7,500.00, which would include online DISC profile, course-related materials, lunch and snacks for the two days.   The registration fee is payable through College of Health Sciences Barclays Bank of Kenya  A/c. No. 0451039385.

 

Course Content: The course content includes key aspects of Leading Teams.  By the end of the course, participants will be to:

  • Identify team leadership as a core competency in leadership development
  • Identify importance of individuals working in teams in a practical management model
  • Differentiate the behavioral drivers for individuals and for teams and suggest what a leader is likely to influence in a practical management model
  • Have an overview of incorporation of students in to teams in the US and in Kenya
  • Learn how new pharmacists are incorporated into pharmacy teams and how they build their skills in multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Recognize the differences between organizing a team to ‘execute’ operations and organizing a team to ‘learn’.
  • Know their DISC Profile which utilizes a method for understanding behavior, temperament, and personality. The DISC Profile provides a comprehensive overview of the way that people think, act, and interact. 
  • Identify a way forward for pharmacy leadership development in Kenya

The facilitators for this course will come from University of Kansas, University of Nairobi and Pharmacy Leadership Academy alumni. Profiles of faculty will be posted on the course brochures.
